Er zijn in totaal 100 miljard Ripple munten gecreëerd, waarvan minder dan de helft in circulatie is gebracht.
Ripple profileert zich als een alternatief betaalsysteem voor banken en andere financiële instellingen en timmert aan de weg om de blockchain technologie ingebed te krijgen in het bestaande financiële systeem. Daarvoor ontwikkelde het bedrijf haar eigen xCurrent betaalsysteem.
