Ethereum 2.0 nadert een belangrijke mijlpaal van 6 miljoen staked Ether (ETH). Het Ethereum Launchpad, Ethereum 2.0’s portaal voor validators om hun munten in te zetten, toont zo’n 5,9 miljoen staked Ether en bijna 180.000 validators die de blockchain woensdag aandrijven.
Dat is gemiddeld net iets meer dan de minimum 32 Ether die nodig is om de validatie software te activeren en een validerende node op het netwerk te worden. Dit vertegenwoordigt een investering van $ 66.560 om deel te nemen als een validator op het netwerk tegen de gemiddelde crypto exchange prijs op het moment van publicatie.
Toen Ethereum 2.0 voor het eerst online ging in december 2020, vereiste de stichting een minimum van 524.288 ETH te staken voor de lancering. Dus in zes maanden tijd is Ethereum gegroeid met 10x meer validators dan de minimale netwerkvereisten die vorig jaar door de stichting werden bepaald.
Volgens de Ethereum Foundation zijn validators “verantwoordelijk voor het opslaan van gegevens, het verwerken van transacties, en het toevoegen van nieuwe blokken aan de blockchain.”
ETH steeg deze week na het terugwinnen van $2.000, en bleef boven belangrijke steun op $2.080 sinds halverwege de middag maandag (UTC). Op het huidige prijsniveau is de 5,9 miljoen ingezette Ether zo’n $12,29 miljard waard in marktwaarde. Dat cijfer vertegenwoordigt de hoeveelheid geld die bijna 180.000 validators hebben opgesloten in een deposito, voor de kans om de blockchain te voeden.
Dit kwalificeert hen als betrouwbare deelnemers aan het netwerk, met een belang in het volgen van de regels en het weren van kwaadaardig gedrag en software van het Ethereum netwerk. Validators die zich niet aan het netwerk protocol houden, offline gaan, of falen om te valideren, riskeren hun ingezette Ether te verliezen. Degenen die het netwerk helpen de regels te volgen en consensus te bereiken bij het verwerken van verzoeken van gebruikers verdienen beloningen die op de blockchain worden bijgeschreven.
