De banengroei is voldoende om te compenseren voor de groeiende populatie, maar niet om de structurele werkloosheid omlaag te krijgen. Het werkloosheidspercentage bleef gelijk op 6,7%, terwijl economen rekenden op een daling naar 6,6%.
De banencijfers van januari en februari werden beide naar boven bijgesteld, waarmee de gemiddelde banengroei per maand over de afgelopen twaalf maanden op 183.000 uitkwam. De participatiegraad steeg ten opzichte van een maand geleden met 0,2 procentpunt naar 63,2%. In historisch perspectief is dat nog steeds een zeer laag niveau. Als gevolg van het banencijfer klom de goudprijs weer boven de $1.300 per troy ounce.
