De centrale banken van Rusland en India gaan ervoor zorgen dat onderlinge handel tussen de twee landen binnenkort in de nationale valuta afgerekend kunnen worden. Dat verklaarde de Russische financiële toezichthouder afgelopen woensdag tegenover Ria Novosti. De centrale banken introduceren een werkgroep die de voorbereidingen gaat treffen die nodig zijn om in roepies en roebels te handelen.
Het Russische ministerie van Financiën treft al voorbereidingen om bepaalde exportartikelen voortaan in roebels af te rekenen. Op die manier probeert Rusland zich minder afhankelijk te maken van dollartransacties. Door de Amerikaanse sancties hebben bepaalde Russische bedrijven al beperkte toegang tot dollarrekeningen en Amerikaanse banken.
Eigen valuta
In juni pleitte de Russische minister van Financiën nog voor een valutaswap tussen de centrale banken van Rusland en China, zodat de export tussen beide landen niet meer in Amerikaanse dollars afgerekend hoeft te worden. Veel handelspartners van Rusland gebruiken al roebels, maar de meerderheid van de transacties wordt nog steeds in dollars vereffend.
Volgens de Russische overheidsfunctionaris Sergei Ivanov is het realistisch dan China en Rusland al hun onderlinge handel in hun eigen valuta verrekenen, maar dat dat niet in één keer gedaan kan worden. De laatste jaren hebben met name China en Rusland veel stappen gezet om het gebruik van dollars in internationale handel te beperken.
